Human Impacts
Grade Level:

Lesson Description

Satellite images truly require marvelous modern technology. The satellites are orbiting hundreds of miles above, a long distance to take pictures in any situation. Light from the Earth's surface diminishes rapidly as it radiates into space, requiring very sensitive equipment to detect it on a small scale. The Earth is turning rapidly, at close to 1,800 km/hr. The satellite is moving fast too. And, the atmosphere's changing temperature distorts whatever you do see.
