Phase Changes

Subject:
Structure and Properties of Matter
Grade Level:
Middle School

Lesson Description

Water boils. Ice melts. Fog forms. Honey crystallizes. In each of these examples, a substance changes from one form to another. A phase is a distinct physical form of matter. An example is water in its solid (ice), liquid (water), and gas (vapor or steam) forms. In this lesson, you will investigate phase changes. You will observe changes in temperature as heat is added to a liquid or a solid.
