Lesson Description

Have you ever seen (or heard of) lightning rods? If not, they are metal rods attached to buildings used to attract lightning to channel it harmlessly to the ground.

Why do you think these rods are made of metal? Do you think electricity passes through all materials with the same ease? In this lesson, you will be investigating how well different materials conduct electricity.

To carry out this investigation, you will record the brightness of a lightbulb while it is connected to different substances.
· Bright light means a good conductor.
· Dim light means a poor conductor.
· No light means not a conductor.
