Lesson Description

As yeast grows, it eats sugar and produces a gas whose chemical formula is CO2, carbon dioxide. Adding carbon dioxide to water makes it more acidic.

Microscopic Yeast
This experiment looks at yeast to see how quickly it metabolizes (eats and digests) sugars. As the yeast cells eat the sugar, they put out carbon dioxide.
